INTERDISCIPLINARY SEMINAR "CURRENT PROBLEMS OF GLOBAL STUDIES"

An interdisciplinary, permanent seminar dedicated to the topical problems of global studies was originally conceived as a philosophical and methodological research center intended primarily for scientists, teachers and specialists. This is exactly how its meetings were held for almost two decades, once a month.

Абстрактная краска

HISTORY

Its first meeting took place in 2001 at the Academy of State Service under the President of the Russian Federation (RAGS) and was chaired by the founder of this seminar, prof. A.N. Chumakov. Then the venue of the seminar was the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where its co-leaders were also well-known scientists in global studies - prof. I.K. Liseev and philosopher, writer A.V. Katsura, and the scientific secretary - Ph. n. HELL. Korolyov.
The very interdisciplinary essence of global studies presupposes discussion at the seminar of the humanitarian and natural sciences, theoretical and applied aspects of global studies. That is why, during his work, in addition to specialists and those who are seriously interested in this issue, a variety of outstanding scientists and public figures participated in it. In particular, presentations were made by: A. A. Gromyko, V. I. Danilov-Danilyan, E. V. Girusov, A. V. Buzgalin, A. P. Nazaretyan, R. I. Khasbulatov, Jagdish Gandhi, William Guy and many other domestic and foreign experts.

February 20, 2020 - the first meeting, when the seminar continues its work on a new platform - at Moscow State University, namely, at the Faculty of Global Processes.

Why here and now? There are several reasons for this.

Firstly, not only in Russia, but also in the world, Moscow University in recent years has come to the fore both in the study of globalization processes and in terms of training specialists in a new field of interdisciplinary knowledge - globalistics. And, first of all, because a unique faculty has been actively working and successfully developing here for almost a decade and a half, where global issues are key, is in the spotlight.
Secondly, this faculty, in fact, became the heir and continuer of the work of the founding fathers of Russian global studies, such as academicians: I.T.Frolov, N.N. Moiseev, D.M. Gvishiani, A.L. Yanshin, G.V. Dobrovolsky, Y.A.Izrael, M.I.Budyko; professors: V.V.Zagladin, G.S.Khozin, E.V. Girusov, N.F. Reimers and other prominent scientists, many of whom were graduates and employees of Moscow State University. Regularly held international congresses on global studies on the basis of the faculty (the next such congress will be held in May this year) is another confirmation of this. But more importantly, the faculty is essentially paving the way for it, laying the foundations for the training of modern specialists in the field of global studies and international relations, primarily in the field of economics and politics.

Finally, one more argument can be formulated as follows: Globalistics is a multidisciplinary field of scientific research and a field of practical action, where theory and practice must be in constant interaction. Hence, it is quite obvious that only curricula for undergraduate and graduate students are not enough for them to become highly qualified specialists in their field. For this reason, the seminar should be given another important function - educational and educational. And this means that the composition of its participants should be replenished at the expense of students and postgraduates.

Thus, the seminar is designed to expand their circle of contacts with leading scientists and practitioners, which will give them both new knowledge and a new vision of both the modern global world and its individual sides, and, most importantly, the place and role of their country in a closely interconnected world.

Now a few words about the goals and objectives of the seminar. Of course, the exchange of ideas and the popularization of new achievements in the field of global studies is its important function. But that is not all. It is no less important that the seminar raise new questions, make one think about what is not yet relevant today, but will come to the fore in the future. This means that we will not seek to necessarily find a consensus in our speeches, positions and points of view. It is much more important to give impetus, to generate an impulse for the birth of new ideas, so that after each seminar one would like to turn to special literature and primary sources in search of additional information, new data, etc.

In conclusion, I would like to note that the first meeting of the seminar on the new site falls on an extraordinary date - 02/20/2020. Leaving aside mysticism, I would like to hope that this beautiful combination of numbers will contribute to the fact that the seminar will continue and enhance its best traditions, remaining, as before, interesting and fruitful.
I wish you all creative success!

Past seminar

The seminar was devoted to the peculiarities of the interaction between Russia and China in the global world. The main purpose of its holding was the exchange of ideas and the popularization of global research.
